Coach’s Compass is Ark’s monthly Q&A series with Christian Dating Coaches. Each edition features real questions from singles navigating the ups and downs of modern dating — and practical, faith-centered advice from coaches who get it.

Q1: Getting Started in Christian Dating Apps

“I am new to the dating world and am a bit old school. I have had to adapt to this new format of Christian dating apps. My question for you is, what is the best place to start when you are not getting many likes or responses back from women that I am interested in?” — Anonymous

Michelle’s Answer:
You’re not alone—many men feel the same way when they step into dating apps. The good news is that there are three areas you can change to affect your success. First, your pictures: research shows professional photos perform best, so invest in quality images that reflect who you are. Second, your profile: tell short stories that show you’re a man after God’s own heart, the kind who makes a woman feel safe and cared for. Third, your messages: skip “hey, how are you” and respond thoughtfully to her profile—show that you’re a man who can hear her heart.

Q2: Standing Out with Your Profile

“What else do I need in my profile to make it stand out?” - Anonymous

Michelle’s Answer:
God has a plan for you, and nothing can stop your person from finding you. Still, since you asked about standing out: research shows professional photos get about 50% more attention. Before the photoshoot, women often benefit from a professional makeover, and men from help choosing stylish clothes. Then, make your profile more than a list of hobbies—tell little stories that spark curiosity and give someone something to respond to. Aim to make it a sensory experience. Do these things, and your profile will stand out.

Q3: How to Engage and Build Connections

“How do I engage with others here?”  -Faithful & Frustrated

Michelle’s Answer:
The best way to engage is by sending fun, flirty messages that spark conversation. You can be respectful and still create chemistry—people are here for romance, not just pen pals. Share something interesting, and don’t be afraid to show your personality and be a little vulnerable. Most importantly, start the conversation, send messages regularly, and remember: romantic connections only grow when you’re willing to put yourself out there.
